MOTION AND VIDEO EDITING SAMPLES
MOTION GRAPHICS, COLOR GRADING, AND AUDIO EDITING
Motion Graphics - After Effects
This video features several recent examples of motion graphic projects created with Adobe After Effects: an ad concept for Northwest University's Creatio program (the school's STEM-based college), a social media hype reel for the Seattle Mariners, an animation for Altoura 360's platform, simulated browser animation and motion graphic work for Altoura's AI features, and an intro bumper animation for Overlake Christian Church's student ministries youth group night, Grouplife.Color Correction and Grading - Adobe Premiere
The color correction and grading process is one of my favorite steps in the lifecycle of a project. Often times this step is the "make it or break it" moment for the creative vision and emotion behind a project. These few examples include two talking head clips from different lighting scenarios and several event clips out in the field. The talking head clips get color correction to fix any color cast or variance in lens color, then a final color grade that adds creative vision to the look of the image. The event footage gets the same treatment, but with an individual process for each clip, depending on variance in lighting scenario and exposure.
Audio Post Production Editing - Premiere and Audition
These two examples include an outdoor "run and gun" style of shooting and a more formal example. For both of these shoots I used a shotgun microphone mounted on a boom arm pointed down at the subject to capture clean audio. My audio editing workflow typically follows the steps of getting levels where I want them, addressing any glaring background noise or distractions, equalizer and compression, then finishing touches like reducing sibilance, resonating frequency reduction, and healing if needed. In the case of the second clip, during the word "common" her bracelet or necklace can be heard making a jingle noise, which was able to be removed via the healing tool in Adobe Audition's spectral frequency display.
Why I Teach UX Design - Program Insight Ad
At Northwest University the number one product is the education that is offered to its students. Through speaking with prospective, current, and graduated students and other research, we determined that one of the best ways we can share about the strengths of our product is through getting to know our professors. The "Why I Teach" series has been a project of mine for the last few years, and has been a great tool for sharing about our "product" at NU. In preproduction, I have an intial conversation with the professor about their passion for their subject and what they think is important for a new student to know. During the interview, utilzing well prepared questions and directing on set, we are able to draw out the strengths of these programs in convicing and effective ways. Those responses will ultimately allow the final video to exemplify the benefits of attending NU for a degree in UX Design, Business, Video Production, etc.
Logitech G Pro Superlight - Spec Ad
This short spec ad was created as an example project for one of the two video production courses that I taught at Northwest as an adjunct in the 2020-2021 school year. This mouse is my daily-driver for both productivity and gaming so I was quite familar with the benefits and highlights of the device. The turnaround was pretty fast on this shoot and edit, about 90 minutes start to finish. I put together a brief storyboard about another mouse being too slow and cumbersome, then being replaced by the Superlight. I shot the footage at the computer, staged the product shots, then got to editing. I looked at Logitech's own marketing around the mouse and took inspiration for the "Zero ____" copy and glitch effects. Overall, I wanted this brief ad to demonstrate the benefits of the mouse without needing too much explanation.
